Between the Kitchen and the Lab

Bakelite, Blood, Horn, Hair

Bakelite, blood, horn, and hair - all once categorised as types of plastics - and a material lense to interrogate the ‘true-cost’ and origins of our material worlds.

An event was performed where participants were asked to order a selection of handmade and curated objects according to a range of criteria including age, utility, cost, and aesthetics. It is only upon interaction and discussion that the true identity of each object is revealed.

Objects included a drinking vessell made from blood, a bakelite dish and a human-hair toothbrush.
